Assistant Principal, Bonnie King

Welcome students, parents, and stakeholders,

I am honored to serve as Assistant Principal at Clay High School. I’d like to introduce myself to you. Please feel free to reach out at any time if there is anything I can help you with.

I have worked in education for 17 years, 15 of which have been in Clay County. I am a graduate of Florida State University and received a master’s degree in Educational Leadership from the University of North Florida. I hold certifications in Exceptional Student Education, Middle Grades Integrated Studies, Business Education, Educational Leadership, as well as certifications in Educational Leadership and a School Principal certification.

I began my career in Clay County as a Language Arts teacher and have held various teaching roles including ESE Support Facilitator and Reading Coach. As a teacher leader, I facilitated professional development programs centered on supporting students with learning disabilities, content-area reading, and adolescent literacy. I also served the Clay County School District as the Secondary English/Language Arts Curriculum Specialist. In this role, I helped transition the district into new ELA standards and curriculum and developed district curriculum guides and assessments.  I then assumed the role of Assistant Principal at Lake Asbury Junior High School before transitioning to Clay High School last school year as Assistant Principal. I am an avid sports fan and can often be seen attending Clay High sporting events. Go Blue Devils!

The faculty and staff at Clay High School is dedicated to providing you and your child with the best high school experience possible. Please do not hesitate to reach out if there is anything we can do to help make this school year the very best it can be!

Civics Seal of Excellence

“Education is the great engine of personal development. It is through education that the daughter of a peasant can become a doctor, that the son of a mineworker can become the head of the mine, that a child of farmworkers can become the president of a great nation. It is what we make out of what we have, not what we are given, that separates one person from another.”

Assistant Principal, Joshua Burghart

My name is Joshua Burghart, and I am excited to serve Clay High as assistant principal. I am a lifelong Clay County resident and am a product of the Clay County School system, graduating in 2004. After graduation, I attended the University of Florida where I studied history and minored in education. I have been an educator for sixteen years, fifteen of which I was in the classroom. My first teaching job was at Wilkinson Junior High as a social studies teacher. At WJHS, I was an integral part of launching the Civics department in 2012. I helped develop standards-based lessons that focused on data collection to increase student growth. After nine years at WJHS, I transferred to Orange Park High School. At OPHS, I helped transform the U.S. History department by developing a curriculum that focused on checking for understanding and remediation opportunities to help all students master the U.S. History standards. I also became the Social Studies department head in 2018 where I helped implement new procedures to increase vertical and horizontal integration opportunities between departments to maximize student growth. After three years at OPHS, I accepted a position at Middleburg High School to become their Social Studies department head and U.S. History teacher. At MHS, I was able to help lead my U.S. History team to tremendous increases on the U.S. History EOC and we obtained the highest scores in the district for the 2021-2022 school year. As a leader at Clay High School, I look forward to helping continue the academic excellence that Clay High is known for by using my extensive experience in the classroom to help make decisions that will benefit all students.
